The Diaspora Business forum brought together key Arab business leaders and European investors eager to develop tomorrow’s business champions, leveraging talents, networks and finance from the Mediterranean diaspora in Europe, US and Gulf Countries. The MedVentures Business Forum taking place in Tunis and focusing on diasporas, is co-organised by the newly-created Confédération des Entreprises Citoyennes de Tunisie (CONECT), a new Tunisian employer organisation, and ANIMA, a network gathering public and private actors for the economic development of the Mediterranean in partnership with European Commission, ATUGE, MedafCo, Algerian start-up initiative, Diva Sicar, GIZ, AHK, APII, FIPA, etc.
 

 
Objectives
 

The objectives of this forum are to :

- Develop business partnerships between the best Mediterranean start-ups, investors/entrepreneurs from the diaspora and regional Maghrebian/Mediterranean business networks (business parks, incubators, business angels, etc.)
- Coach selected Mediterranean start-ups and entrepreneurship networks through coaching sessions lead by talents from the Diaspora
- Highlight the new assets of Tunisia (and the Maghreb as a whole) in terms of innovation and entrepreneurship
- Gather and Involve regional and international key partners (Investment Promotion Agencies, business and innovation networks, international institutions, Diaspora networks,business leaders, etc.) on a 3-year action plan mobilizing talents from the diaspora

2 months ago, 240 participants from the Diaspora, investors, business and innovation networks from Europe, the Maghreb, Gulf countries and the United States came together to propose concrete actions to support the development of start-ups and entrepreneurship in the Maghreb:
Top Executives originating from the Region, leaders of large scale companies (CISCO, ST Microeletronics, Ernst and Young, If & Then Ventures)
Innovative Start-ups (of which ten were selected and coached by talents from the Diaspora the day before the forum during a "Power Pitch" session, a new and innovative coaching format specially developed by ANIMA)
Diaspora networks (Algerian Start-up Initiative, ATUGE, Algerian Talent Network, CJD International, etc.)
Investors and financing actors (Swicorp, Tuninvest, Italian Business Angels Network, DIVA Sicar, Attijari Sicar,BIAT, Morgan Stanley...)
Maghreb private/public economic development organisations (FIPA, API, Ubique, Wiki Start-up, CJD Tunisie, MEDAFCO, etc.)
The Union for the Mediterranean, the African Development Bank and the US State Department (US Embassy Tunis) also attended the Forum.
