The CJD International organises the first Africa Entrepreneurs Exhibition to be held in Casablanca on 1, 2 and 3 March 2012 companies with a desire to exchange, share and create links between these countries.

The MedVentures ICT Business Forum was held in Marseille on 13 October 2011, bringing together more than 170 innovation and entrepreneurship stakeholders from 5 European countries (Belgium, France, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, UK,) and from 7 South-Mediterranean countries (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel). ICT applications issues (Mobile Applications, multimedia, 2.0 platforms, E-Health, M-Tourism, etc.), were addressed during this forum, through concrete projects and proposals.

Entrepreneurs, large companies, innovation and business clusters (incubators, technopoles, etc.), and investors gathered on this occasion, including Nokia, Tiscali, STMicroelectronics Casablanca Technopark, Invest in Israel, the European Investment Bank, Algerian Start-up Initiative, If and Then Ventures, Middle East Ventures Partners, European Business and Innovation Center Network (EBN), OASIS 500, and many others. ICT applications issues (Mobile Applications, multimedia, 2.0 platforms, E-Health, M-Tourism, etc.), were addressed during this forum.

With strong markets growths, major investments in innovation, Mediterranean partner countries offer strong opportunities for the growth and competitiveness of European companies. Europe represents a springboard towards new markets and technology providers for South-Mediterranean investors. How to adapt to the North and South-Mediterranean markets? What synergies to build tomorrow’s economic leaders at a Euro-Mediterranean level? Which outsourcing models? These issues have been tackled during the ICT Forum, through entrepreneurs projects and concrete proposals of action platforms.
Based on an innovative format, this forum enabled to:

• Develop business partnerships in the North and South Mediterranean

• Identify new business opportunities, and expectations in term of international partnerships, thanks to market datas, testimonials, etc.)

• Promote more than 30 ICT start-ups from 12 countries and their international development project.

• Highlight international platforms supporting innovation and entrepreneurship

• Offer concrete proposals to implement regional actions for entrepreneurs, particularly concerning incubation, mentoring, or financing.

9 MedVentures start-ups and 9 coachs from Lebanon, Egypt, UK, etc. gathered in Lebanon for a mentoring programme. The experience is designed to develop mentors on the one hand, and empower entrepreneurs to grow their businesses to the point that they start creating jobs and alleviate poverty, build successful and sustainable businesses, creating at the same time a life-changing opportunity for mentors and mentees to learn together, fulfill potential and realize ambition, on the other.
This MEdMentoring is a Regional / Mediterranean mentoring workshop, organised by in partnership with ANIMA under the MedVentures initiative, Berytech, and Mowgli.

24-08-2011: The Tunisian Scolarid�e will pitch at MedVentures Tunis

Created by the Tunisian entrepreneur Mehdi Frikha, Scolaridée is a young innovative start-up which develops online educational solutions with one goal: to reduce school failure by providing an online bank curriculum (courses, exercises, MCQ) with video games and cartoons form suitable for each age and each grade level. Scolaridée has already made initial contact with the school support market by launching a range of home tutoring in September 2009. Since then it has provided over 3200 hours of home tuition to 110 customers in the Paris area. This first experience has enabled Scolaridée to refine its business model, a mix of online courses and tutoring. Scolaridée deploys its business and R&D activities between France, Tunisia and Morocco where it plans to open an office. Mehdi Frikha is now looking for commercial and financial partners to accelerate the development of its web platform.

The Lebanese start-up Dermandar, which competed in MedVentures 2010, has developed a free iPhone application that has reached 500.000 downloads. The application, which creates 360 degree panorama or wide angle photos, has been recommended by Apple and has reached 160,000 downloads in the United States, 57,000 in China, 51,000 in Taiwan and 35,000 in Hong Kong.

The MIT Arab Business Plan Competition 2011 held on June 17, 2011 in Tunis awarded a MedVentures start-up. AlKhawarizmy, Egyptian company specialized in the software sector was awarded the second prize of an equivalent of 10,000 dollars. BitBait, another start-up MedVentures, was also among the finalists.

11-19-2010: A Tunisia 'start-up' invented an industrial process for 3D engraving on glass or marble

Seventeen years ago, while studying industrial engineering carreer at the Laval University, Quebec (Canada), Sami Abid, a young tunisian full of ideas, proposed a goal: To create the first sandblasting automated machine for engraving glass, a process based on the impact of sand at high speed that is used in removing corrision or polished surfaces. And he did, gaining an appreciation of the Canadian Agency for International Development.

A decade earlier, with the experience of its first machine, Abid decided to go further, extending the etching process in three dimensions, which are usually used in the diamonds market.

Nine years later the fully operational prototype machinery and industrial processes by numerical control are completed. Abid Sami is now in charge of 51 employees, of which 19 are highly qualified and want to produce in series to the foreign market. His business plan provides an annual production capacity of 300 units at a unit cost of 50,000 euros.

'After the realization of the prototype and international patent registration, we also conducted an international market study by consulting firm to ensure the commercial profitability of our innovative project. Our main challenge, today, is seeking finance to set up a manufacturing unit of our crystal engraving machine on an industrial scale', says Sami Abid to Medlognews from its 3,000 square meter facility located in the city of Manouba, north of Tunis.

His project has won several awards in Kuwait and Tunisia, and has been selected among the hundred best entrepreneurship Medventures 2010, a program to support the internationalization of start-ups in the Mediterranean area funded by Anima Investment Network...

L’entreprise algérienne RedFabriq, spécialisée dans les solutions de suivi et de contrôle du process de projets industriels, vient d’être sélectionnée parmi les 10 start-ups finalistes du prix Medventures 2010.

En effet, en clôture du séminaire Innovation Invest in Med la semaine dernière, le Jury du prix a sélectionné les dix finalistes du prix Medventures lesquels se retrouveront le 3 décembre à Marseille et qui défendront leurs projets pour faire partie des 3 startups gagnantes. Les lauréats recevront un prix de 90 000 euros et seront mis en relation avec des investisseurs et partenaires d’affaires potentiels. Aussi, les 10 meilleures start-ups élues par le jury MedVentures bénéficieront d’un coaching personnalisé, de rendez vous d’affaires et d’une campagne de communication ciblée.

RedFabriq a créé un métier pour répondre aux attentes des DSI les plus exigeants :
celui de partenaire en industrialisation de projets. RedFabriQ est le partenaire privilégié des DSI et directions informatiques des grands groupes français pour l’industrialisation de leurs projets. Parce que l’industrialisation est une discipline transverse à l’ensemble des métiers informatiques, RedFabriQ a développé une expertise pour chacun d’entre eux. L’industrialisation n’est pas une discipline nouvelle : les méthodologies (Merise, UML et RUP) y contribuent. Normaliser les projets, appliquer des concepts communs sont également des opérations appliquées sur les divers projets depuis de nombreuses années. Des outils de gestion de projet, de sauvegarde de code source existent également.

The Berytech Incubation Awards is a competition for entrepreneurs that have innovative business ideas and startup creation projects, wanting to create their enterprises, and looking for finance, logistic support and assistance. Established since 2002, this competition rewards winning entrepreneurs cash prizes as well as a series of support services from Berytech and its partners. Winners will therefore benefit from the necessary assistance to create their start-ups in the incubator of BERYTECH, which provides a suitable support and a favorable environment especially adapted for development. The Awards present 2 types of tracks for enterprise creation projects: "Idea" track (for innovative business ideas that still need a maturity phase as well as technical and economical validation) and "Startup" track (for innovative business projects that have a valid "proof-of-concept" as well as a feasibility study established; hence the company creation would be envisaged within 3 months).

The representatives of the Invest in Med projects Young Entrepreneurs, Distrimed and Maghreb crossroads have been invited on April 26-27, 2010, to the "Presidentiel Summit on Entrepreneuship" in Washington in order to testify about their experiences and career successes. The summit which encourages partnerships with Muslim entrepreneurs, was opened by the President of the United States Barack Obama. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also made a statement. Contacts have been established for future partnerships with MEPI and Vital Voices.
